I’ve been working on a new embroidery pattern, and I’m excited to share it with you: a little gnome paired with an oversized sunflower. It’s a lighthearted design with clear lines, easy stitches, and plenty of room to play with color. Whether you’re looking for a quick weekend project or something cheerful to add to your hoop wall, this one fits right in.

What You’ll Get in the Free Pattern
The downloadable pattern includes:
- A clean black‑line template ready for tracing
- A printable version sized for easy transfer
- Five different sizes, plus reverse patterns.
As always, you’re welcome to follow my palette or switch things up. Gnomes are adaptable little guys — they look good in just about anything.
Here are the DMC colors that I used:
| Nose | 3782 |
| Hat, Pants, Shoes | 155 |
| Big Sunflower | 744 |
| Little Sunflowers | 742 |
| Stem | 580 |
| Sunflower Centers | 780 |
It’s a bright, friendly combination, but feel free to personalize it. Swap in a red hat, try a muted sunflower, or go full pastel if that’s your style.
Stitch Suggestions
You can use whatever stitches you enjoy, but these work especially well with the design:
- Backstitch for outlines
- Satin stitch for the nose and shoes
- Long & short stitch for the sunflower petals
- Stem stitch for the flower stems
- French knots for the sunflower centers
The pattern is forgiving, so it’s a great place to experiment or practice new techniques.
A Bit About the Design
I wanted something that felt cheerful without being overly complicated — a small character, a bold flower, and a layout that’s easy to trace and stitch. The oversized sunflower adds a fun sense of scale, and the gnome brings a little personality without requiring a ton of detail work.
