Lovely Little Hand Embroidery
by Shirly Hudson
I recently read “Lovely Little Hand Embroidery” by Shirly Hudson that I loved.
The whimsical drawings in this book really sparked my imagination. I think the witch (for October) and the sunflower girl (for August) were my absolute favorite. Her drawings kind of remind me the artwork done by Mary Engelbreit back in the 90’s. (Remember the paper dolls she use to create for “Home Companion” magazine?)
This book not only gives you full embroidery patterns with a list of DMC threads, but it also gives you instructions on how to make your embroidered pieces into useful items around the house like placemats, pillows, wall hangings, etc.
On page 8 she gives you instructions on how to transfer your design onto fabric (or you can use my instructions here).
Page 10 Shirly Hudson gives you a basic list of the stitches she used throughout the book like backstitch, lazy daisy, etc. with clear illustrations.
If you are running short on ideas for what to stitch next you might want to give Shirly Hudson’s book, Lovely Little Hand Embroidery a try.
