Do you ever set goals or resolutions for yourself? Have you ever succeeded in your resolutions for the year? What was your favorite resolution?
2009 was my favorite resolution, so far. It was the year that my thoughts grew up and I decided that I would no longer beat myself up by forcing myself to “lose weight.”
Instead of setting a goal to lose weight, I set a fun goal for myself. I decided that 2009 would be the year that I would indulge in my love of photography more. Each day I took a new photo and made a blog about it. By the end of the year, I felt accomplished, inspired, and much better about myself than the usual weight loss goal that I would normally beat myself up about.
As 2017 ends tonight I am making plans for what my intended focus will be on for the coming year. I know from past years that if I want to make a resolution stick, I must make it a fun project.
So this year I will be learning a new skill, watercolor. I have always loved watercolor paintings for their softness and gentle flow of color. Unlike oil or acrylic, the colors just seem to float across the page in wonderment.
For Christmas this year I asked my husband to buy me a set of watercolor pencils and some watercolor paper. Then after Christmas, I bought myself a watercolor-a-day calendar to learn new techniques.
Despite the fact that I haven’t drawn in 37 years, and never painted, I am determined to learn this new skill in 2018.
Although 2017 isn’t quite done, I had a couple of hours to myself today so I opened the box of pencils and drew a bee to the best of my ability (The photo at the top of this post). I was actually kind of surprised that it came out as well as it did considering I haven’t drawn in 37 years and even then my drawing skills were never this good. So I’m rather pleased with the outcome.
As for some of the other goals I have set for myself in 2018 they are as follows;
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. I am guilty of not obeying God’s 4th commandment. I have been convicted to start adding this to my routine. So as of sundown on Friday night, until sundown on Saturday night, I am resting.
I am also working hard on some of my business skills. I don’t want to go back to work, I want to work for myself. In order to do that, I must get busy with getting a business going.
Watch as little TV as possible. My TV is on quite often but I have now gotten in the habit of utilizing the smart TV feature by putting YouTube on. YouTube has some really awesome videos that play for hours on end like Solfeggio music scales (healing music that you’ll really want to check out if you need calm or a way to shift your mood.), piano music, and beach waves crashing on the bank.
Would you like to join me in this watercolor journey? Or share with me your resolutions? I’d love to hear about what new skills or goals you are setting for yourself.
