Doesn’t this look scrumptious? It is! It feeds four people and can be on your table in about 30 minutes or less.
Several of the steps below you are going to do simultaneously. As you are cooking the vegetables, you’ll be toasting the bread, Then you’ll be cooking the hamburger and assembling the open-faced sandwich.
Let’s get started.
Chop up a large pepper, any color will do, and a large onion. Put in a frying pan with avocado oil (or the oil of your choice to cook with). Fry until done. Set the onions and peppers aside for later.
Turn on your broiler to high. Butter one side of four pieces of bread and place on a cookie sheet, butter side down. I used gluten-free bread from Wal-Mart (Market Fresh) as it’s the best-tasting bread that I can find without making my own.
Keep an eye on the bread so that it doesn’t burn. Flip over to toast both sides.
Next fry one pound of hamburger. I use the cheap stuff because it’s more flavorful and you don’t need oil to fry it. Season with steak seasoning. Cook until you have reached your desired crispness.
When the ingredients are done, start layering the sandwiches. Bread, hamburger, vegetables, and two slices of pepper jack cheese on top.
Place back in broiler and broil until the cheese is melted. Keep an eye on the cheese, you don’t want the cheese too brown.
